Ladders are an important and common piece of equipment that many of us use daily. While simple in concept and design, using a ladder comes with an element of risk.
Ladder falls are a very common reason why people end up in hospital. Don’t make the same mistake as Santa! Make sure you maintain three points of contact, and don’t overreach!

We’ve prepared a short guide to choosing, setting up and climbing a ladder. While most of this is common sense, it might be worthwhile brushing up on some of these ladder safety tips – especially if you are about to embark on a Christmas light roof installation!

Swarf stain prevention https://rscentre.com.au/2021/06/23/swarf-stain-prevention Wed, 23 Jun 2021 03:52:04 +0000 https://rscentre.com.au/?p=3605 For tiny scraps of metal, swarf can be a big headache

If you work with metal, then you work with swarf – metal debris produced by cutting and installing sheetmetal products.

These little scraps of metal can cause you problems if the particles damage your Colorbond® coating. This can be anywhere on the scale ranging from cosmetic rust stains that don’t damage the product performance, to premature corrosion shortening the product lifespan.

Of course, the best way to reduce swarf onsite is to let us do the cutting for you. Ordering your products to exact specifications means you don’t need to cut. But we know that sometimes you can’t avoid cutting on the job, so we’ve compiled a list of things to do that will help stop swarf damage, as well as how to clean up when you get swarf staining. We hope you find this helpful.

Metal compatability https://rscentre.com.au/2021/05/20/metal-compatability Thu, 20 May 2021 04:28:24 +0000 https://rscentre.com.au/?p=3615

Sometimes we get asked about corrosion and how to avoid it. When planning a roof installation, a key thing to consider is whether your metals are compatible. Reducing the conditions that can cause corrosion will give your finished job a longer lifespan and save you headaches in the long run.

In this technical bulletin, we’ve pulled together some information that you might find useful for direct metal-on-metal compatibility as well as drainage from upper to lower surfaces.

And don’t forget the fasteners!

For years now, we have stocked a range of Tri-Fixx fasteners and sealants. We have found Tri-Fixx screws, rivets and washers to be high quality and they do the job every time.

Choosing the incorrect fastener can undo all your good work laying that beautiful Colorbond® roof! We have some tips to help you choose the right class of screw – and right washers – for your job.

Of course, if in doubt, drop in and see us or give us a call. We’ll be happy to help you make the right choice.

The Victorian Building Authority regularly conducts compliance checks on roof drainage systems, and during these inspections have reported that – in some instances – the work they check is not compliant with Australian Standards.

We’ve had a few questions from customers recently about current regulations so we have prepared a list of requirements for you to consider when specifying your box gutters. This document draws on the most recent VBA guidelines, and is for roofers, plumber and builders who are designing drainage systems.

The guidelines specify requirements in relation to:

  • gradient
  • support systems
  • outlets
  • overflow
  • layout

We hope that this can be a useful resource for you when planning your next roofing project.
